This page explains what personal information stuartfoxmusic.com collects, why, and what you can do about it. It’s written to be read, not survived. If anything here is unclear, just ask.
Who’s responsible
This website is run by FoxMultimedia Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 08090487. Registered office: Wyndrush, Main Road, Tirley, Gloucester, GL19 4EU.
For anything to do with privacy or your personal information, email mail@stuartfoxmusic.com.
Under UK data protection law, FoxMultimedia Ltd is the “data controller” for this site. This page is written in the first person: “I” means FoxMultimedia Ltd.
The short version
- I don’t sell your data. Ever. To anyone.
- There are no adverts, no advertising trackers and no cookies for tracking. A simple visitor log is kept for 30 days (details below).
- If you use the contact form, I get your message and reply to it. That’s all it’s for.
- The live chat and YouTube videos are run by other companies, who can set cookies or see your IP address when you use them. Details below.
What I collect, and why
The contact form
If you use the contact form, I collect your name, email address, subject and message.
Why: so I can read your enquiry and reply. You won’t be added to a mailing list and I won’t pass your details on.
Where it goes: the message is emailed to me, and a copy is stored in the website’s database so nothing gets lost.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests (you’ve contacted me and expect a reply) and, where it’s about working together, steps you’ve asked me to take before a contract.
How long: enquiries are kept while they’re useful and reviewed regularly. Ones that don’t lead anywhere are deleted within 24 months. If an enquiry becomes paid work, the records (contracts, invoices, correspondence) become business records, which the law says I keep for six years from the end of the financial year they relate to.
Days Out suggestions
The Days Out pages have a box where you can suggest a place for me to visit. It asks for the place, where it is (or a link), and why you like it. It doesn’t ask for your name or email.
Why: so I can check the place out. Suggestions are stored in the website’s database and deleted once I’ve added the place or decided not to.
Spam protection: to limit how many suggestions can be sent, the site briefly keeps a scrambled, one-way version of your IP address. It can’t be turned back into the address, it isn’t stored with your suggestion, and it’s deleted automatically within 24 hours.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
Live chat
The chat button is run by tawk.to. It loads on the site’s pages and sets its own cookies so a conversation can carry on as you move around. If you chat, tawk.to handles your messages, along with technical details such as your IP address, browser and the page you’re on, and passes them to me. tawk.to is based outside the UK.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests (answering you quickly when you get in touch). Chat transcripts are deleted within 24 months unless they turn into work, as above.
Visitor log
When you view a page, the site notes the time, the page, which site sent you here (if any), and your IP address, which it uses to look up your rough location (town or country) and network name, for example a company or broadband provider. The lookup is done by ipinfo.io. This uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device.
Why: it’s a small business site, and knowing when someone’s looking (and roughly from where) helps me follow up on interest in my work. I may get a notification on my phone when someone visits.
How long: entries are deleted automatically after 30 days. I don’t build profiles of people or combine this with anything else.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
Pitch pages
Sometimes I send a private page of music made for one person or company. Those pages say clearly that they let me know when they’ve been opened and which tracks are played (when, for how long, and whether to the end), with a link to turn that off. Turning it off stops the listening details for that page; I still see that the page was opened.
Why: I’m genuinely excited that you have chosen to have a listen and I’d like to see what you heard. Seeing if you skip a track after a few seconds helps me pitch better next time.
How long: kept until I delete that pitch page, which I do once it’s no longer active.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
Web server logs
Like nearly every website, the server keeps automatic technical logs of requests, including IP address, the page requested, the time, and browser or device type.
Why: security, fixing faults and keeping the site running. I don’t use them to analyse visitors. They’re held by my web host, Zume, and overwritten on a rolling basis (typically about 30 days).
Lawful basis: legitimate interests (keeping the site secure and working).
Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small file a website stores on your device. Here’s everything on this site that uses one:

YouTube videos
Some pages show YouTube videos. Until you press play, all that loads is the thumbnail image, which comes from YouTube’s servers, so Google sees your IP address. When you press play, the video loads in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), and from then on Google’s privacy policy applies.
Videos I host myself, and the site’s fonts, are served from this site and set no cookies.
Who else can see your information
I use a small number of service providers to run the site. They only handle data on my instructions or under their own published policies:
- Zume: website hosting and server logs.
- My email provider: receiving and storing contact form enquiries.
- tawk.to: live chat.
- ipinfo.io: rough location and network for the visitor log.
- Telegram: delivering visit notifications to my phone (town, network and page, not your IP address).
- Google: YouTube videos.
I don’t sell, rent or trade personal information, and I don’t share it for anyone else’s marketing.
Information leaving the UK
tawk.to, ipinfo.io and Google process information outside the UK. Where that happens it’s covered by safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or the UK–US data bridge.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Access: ask for a copy of the personal information I hold about you.
- Rectification: ask me to correct anything inaccurate.
- Erasure: ask me to delete it.
- Restriction: ask me to pause using it while something’s sorted out.
- Object: object to anything I do on the basis of legitimate interests.
- Portability: ask for it in a portable format, where that applies.
To use any of these, email mail@stuartfoxmusic.com. I’ll reply within one month. It’s free, and a plain email is fine.
Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your information, please tell me first. I’d rather fix it. You also have the right to complain to the UK regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office: ico.org.uk, helpline 0303 123 1113.
Safeguarding
The music side of this site is aimed at people in TV and film. The Days Out pages are part of my own personal blog and may be of interest to parents and carers, not children. I don’t knowingly collect information from children and ask that is someone under 18 would like to contact me, they do so through a parent or guardian and we communicate via their email address.
