Over the years I’ve built a number of custom Kontakt instruments for my own projects. I’ve decided to share some of them: two are free, and two are available from Loot Audio.
They’re small, fun and hopefully useful. Use them at your own risk: no guarantees, and no refunds if your hair falls out.
At a glance
- Dream Guitar: bowed electric guitar pads. Free.
- Didge Drone: a dark, evolving didgeridoo drone. Free.
- Thumb Piano: two playable thumb piano instruments. £3.58 on Loot Audio.
- Flute Taps: tuned percussion from flute key clicks. £3.00 on Loot Audio.
Dream Guitar
Made from bowed electric guitar samples taken from a larger library. This patch came about while I was writing a cue, and it’s great for bassy pads.
Didge Drone
A deep, ominous drone made from didgeridoo recordings for an Australian documentary, stretched and processed. Try the mod wheel.
Thumb Piano
Sampled from a thumb piano I found at a market in the south of France, and turned into two instruments. It was originally made for a programme set in Zanzibar.
Flute Taps
A tuned percussion instrument made from recordings of flute key taps, sampled from the pads and the mouthpiece.
