E met a friend here and they enjoyed every minute. You sit at a table, and a slime instructor helps you mix the ingredients together to make slime – lots of mixing, then you get to choose how you want your slime to smell and the colour. Both went for shades of pink but other colours were available.

Next step is tricks: you’re shown how to slap your slime down in such a way it makes a big bubble on the table, spell your name with it and other fun. Finally you get to choose from a range of sprinkles and glittery things to add to the slime before it’s packaged up to take home.

It’s expensive – but it is a fun session and keeps them quiet for an hour. There’s a cafe and a nice play park right next to the slime hub room (and picnic tables next to the play park so you can have a post-slime coffee while the kids play)

You can also buy food from the furniture desk (in the garden and conservatory furniture section) inside the garden centre to feed to the many enormous fish in the pond which is always a hit with the kids.

Worth knowing

  • One-hour slime-making sessions for ages 3 and up
  • Book each child online and pick the Three Shires location. You only pay for the children; grown-ups can stay or pop off for a coffee, but they ask you to stay nearby
  • Every child takes home two tubs of their own slime
  • It's messy, but aprons are provided
  • Bookings can't be refunded or transferred
  • The phone number is the garden centre's
