Original music for TV, film and documentaries, composed and produced to picture by UK TV and documentary composer Stuart Fox.
What I write
I composer original scores for documentaries, factual TV, drama and short films. My scores have been broadcast on National Geographic, History, S4C, ITV Wales and Eden, and my production music has been heard on the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Discovery to name a few.
How it works
Every project is different, but it usually starts with a conversation about the story, the tone and the schedule and budget. Of course I’d like to use session players and a small music team on every project but I know that many budgets don’t allow for everything we might want. That’s ok though, I can work on my own, playing multiple instruments and producing music that will do your film justice, even if the budget is tight.
I write to picture, share ideas early so we can shape the sound together, and refine cues as the edit changes. When we’re done, you get the finished music, ready to drop into the edit and stems if required for the dub.
See my projects, have a listen, or tell me about yours.
Remote working
I work with people all over the world now, and technology has come a long way from the time I had to drive to London or Cardiff to collect a VHS from the edit room to work on.
Ideally, we’d have regular face to face catch up’s with screen and audio sharing, and you’d have a portal to a client area of this site which I’d update with video mockups of my work in progress, usually at the end of every day, ready for notes and steers in the morning.
I’m a little nostalgic for the days where I’d get to hang out in the edit, have a coffee and a catch up, grab some food on the journey back and maybe visit someone I knew if the trip took me past a friend, but we do get a lot more done this way and geography is suddenly no longer an issue.
