'They Call Us' - Original Score

Collective Poem Film for International Women's Day, 2026

Project: They Call Us
Year: 2026
Format: Short poetry film
Composer: Stuart Fox
Runtime: 3 minutes

I composed the original score for “They Call Us”, a short poetry film created for International Women’s Day.

The film brings together the voices of 58 Welsh poets responding in solidarity to a young medical student and Welsh Women’s Health Ambassador who faced vile online abuse after appearing on the news for her voluntary work supporting women’s health.

Their words form a collective poem — many voices woven into a single powerful statement rejecting misogyny and celebrating solidarity.

The film was created in collaboration with Screen Alliance Wales and led by National Poet of Wales Hanan Issa, who helped curate and shape the collective text from the contributing writers.

My score was designed to support the voices of the poem, without overpowering them — using minimal harmony, subtle electronic textures and restrained musical gestures to create space for the words while maintaining emotional momentum.

The words speak of hatred and oppression, but also of strength, resilience and empowerment. I was conscious of gently supporting this fine balance all the way through, with subtle changes in tone as the poem progresses.

Very proud to be a part of this.
